Blocktexx twice rewarded

Australian innovation agency yearly awards ceremony took place this past Wednesday and saw recycling specialist Blocktexx pick up the Manufacturing Innovation Award and be named the Australian Hero for its “sustainable solutions assisting with the transition to a circular economy”.

The Queensland-based has developed a chemical recycling process capable of separating polycotton blends via hydrolysis. BlockTexx Its S.O.F.T. (Separation Of Fibre Technology) can achieve a yield of 93%, with all polyester recovered with a small loss of cellulose, BlockTexx Cofounder Graham Ross told sportstextiles.com. The company has recently doubled its processing capacity to 10,000 tonnes yearly.

Earlier this year, Blocktexx joined a Fashion for Good programme known as The Full Circle Textiles Project Polyester (FCTP-P) initiative. Its process, along with that of CuRe Technology, will be test-run with a consortium of mills, brands and retailers that include Arvind, Teijin, adidas, Bestseller, PVH, Target, Zalando, C&A, and W. L. Gore.
