The Queensland-based has developed a chemical recycling process capable of separating polycotton blends via hydrolysis. BlockTexx Its S.O.F.T. (Separation Of Fibre Technology) can achieve a yield of 93%, with all polyester recovered with a small loss of cellulose, BlockTexx Cofounder Graham Ross told sportstextiles.com. The company has recently doubled its processing capacity to 10,000 tonnes yearly.
Earlier this year, Blocktexx joined a Fashion for Good programme known as The Full Circle Textiles Project Polyester (FCTP-P) initiative. Its process, along with that of CuRe Technology, will be test-run with a consortium of mills, brands and retailers that include Arvind, Teijin, adidas, Bestseller, PVH, Target, Zalando, C&A, and W. L. Gore.
