GOTS kicks off anti-greenwashing campaign
After a successful run last year, Global Standard (GOTS) is expanding its #BehindTheSeams campaign launching this week. The German non-profit, which manages the organic cotton standard, seeks to educate consumers and promote the certified organic cotton fibres found in the products of nearly 300 brands participating in the month-long campaign.

This year’s edition includes a focus on organic in-conversion cotton in a partnership with the Organic Cotton Accelerator (OCA), which is reinforcing its support for farmers shifting to organic practices.

For consumers, the Instagram-based campaign offers daily giveaways, including a trip to Paris with an organic Michelin-starred restaurant reserved for a European winner and a GOTS-certified organic mattress for a winner based in North America.

“Global Standard and GOTS-certified companies work hard in the background to ensure a more organic, sustainable and socially conscious textile industry, but the consumer doesn’t always see or know what that actually means when they pick up a GOTS item in a store,” said Holger Stripf, head of marketing at Global Standard. “This campaign is a fun, engaging way to educate the public on living eco-consciously and why choosing organic textiles is better for the health of humans and the planet.”
