Real-time market insight programme to expand

The European Outdoor Group (EOG) is expanding a market insights programme. After a successful launch in the UK, it will now take the programme to France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Insight into the market situation for sports footwear, apparel and equipment comes from real-time monthly sales data from retailers.

EOG managing director, Scott Nelson, said the programme had provided important quantities and quality of real-time data since its launch in the UK in 2023 and that the information was proving to be “of huge value” to outdoor businesses.

National association Outdoor Sports Valley will work to make similar data available from the market in France, while outdoor and sports IT consultancy OUTTRA will provide the same service in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The benefits for retailers and for the sector as a whole will far outweigh the resources required to become involved in this data-gathering exercise, Mr Nelson said.

He added that there was a longer-term ambition to roll the programme out throughout Europe. “Our progress to date has given us confidence that we can achieve that,” he said.
