The Or Foundation provides funds for fire aftermath

A fire that swept through the Kantamanto Market in Accra, Ghana, on January 1st, has devastated the bustling second-hand clothing market.

The Or Foundation, which is based in Accra, has pledged to donate $1 million to emergency relief efforts. The non-profit estimates that the market receives 15 million pieces of second-hand clothing every week that is resold, reused, repaired and remanufactured by the local community, providing work for some 30,000 people.

The organisation said that this commitment builds upon its broader Second-hand Solidarity Fund (SSF), which has distributed $500,000 in direct grants to more than 1,500 members of the Kantamanto Market community since 2020.
