Yibin Grace opens waste textile dissolving pulp facility

09/04/2025
Manmade cellulose fibre producer Yibin Grace has built what is being called the first recycled textile dissolving pulp facility in China. The Sichuan-based company has a combined production capacity of 450,000 tonnes/year of viscose staple fibre, viscose filament yarn and lyocell products. It was one of the first MMCF producers to use Circulose recycled pulp in its ReGracell-branded viscose staple fibre and filament ranges.

The new pilot facility will process post-industrial and post-consumer textile waste with an initial capacity of 1500 tonnes per year. This is part of a national goal in China to reduce textile waste by 30% by 2030. Building on progress on alternative resources for MMCFs, including work done by Circulose (formerly Renewcell), Yibin has stated that it intends to expand its ‘Next Gen’ production to 60,000 tonnes by 2027 with the expectation that market demand will support such growth.

“Canopy is thrilled with Yibin Grace’s leadership with the launch of China’s first Next Gen textile dissolving pulp mill,” commented Nicole Rycroft, head of environmental not-for-profit Canopy. “Expanding circular production positions the sector to withstand supply volatility associated with increased forest fires and to capture markets looking for low-impact materials. We look forward to Yibin scaling this technology to commercial levels and being an early-solution provider to the textile sector.”

Yibin Grace has been working with Canopy since 2018 and earned a Dark Green Shirt in the organisation’s Hot Button Report for 2024. Canopy said that it has no known risk of sourcing from Ancient and Endangered Forests.
