Panel discussion to address workforce development in textiles
Industry leaders will take part in a panel discussion on textile education and workforce development at the Functional Fabric Fair in Portland on April 15.
Key figures taking part in the discussion will be chief executive of non-profit Advanced Functional Fabrics of America, Dr Sasha Stolyarov, vice-president of innovation at Columbia Sportswear, Haskell Beckham, founder and chief executive of Ohio-based fabrics developer MMI Textiles, Amy Bircher Bruyn, the dean of Wilson College of textiles at North Carolina State University, Dr David Hinks, and vice-president of advanced materials at yarn and fibre developer Parkdale Mills, Cheryl Smyre.
In the discussion, they will address concerns about attracting new talent to the textile industry, and the lack of awareness among younger generations of career opportunities in textiles.
They will explore solutions such as industry engagement with schools, research and product development opportunities, and the role of sustainability in driving textile innovation.
The panel discussion is open to attendees of the Functional Fabric Fair and will start at three o’clock in the afternoon.
