Automation promise for Rieter anniversary
Textile machinery developer Rieter has celebrated its 230th anniversary. But while the Swiss technology provider is now known for advanced machinery for producing yarn from staple fibres, it started out in a more straightforward way.
On April 15, 1795, Johan Jacob Rieter launched a new trading company in Winterthur, specialising in exotic spices and cotton. Within a week, it had taken possession of its first bale of cotton.
Looking ahead, Rieter has said the future of spinning mills is “automated, digital, and intelligent”. At the time of the anniversary, it said it was intensifying its research and development activities, including in areas such as autonomous transport systems and collaborative robotics.
It said its goal is to automate fully the value creation process of spinning mills by 2027. “This will enable spinning mills to reduce their yarn manufacturing costs and maximise their returns,” it added.
