Demo plant in the works for Swiss recycling tech

Swiss textile recycling start-up DePoly has secured new funds and plans to open a demonstration plant in Monthey with a 500 tonne per year capacity this summer. This facility will convert both PET plastics and polyester waste into virgin-quality raw materials, it said.

Pilot partnerships with Swiss outdoor brand Odlo and packaging specialist PTI (a company that first developed PET bottles for Coca-Cola in the 1970s) have helped validate the technology and its output, the company said.

DePoly’s technology involves a mixture of PET hydrolysis and UV light, Tijana Ivanovic told Sportstextiles in an interview at Performance Days.

Investors in its second fund-raising round include MassMutual Ventures, Founderful, ACE & Company, Angel Invest, Zürcher Kantonalbank, BASF Venture Capital, Beiersdorf Venture Capital, and Syensqo.
