Odlo and DePoly’s circular journey
Outdoor performance clothing brand Odlo and chemical recycler DePoly, both Swiss companies, have successfully closed the loop, from textile to textile. The proof-of-concept project was supported by an InnoBooster grant from Innosuisse, Switzerland’s innovation agency. Its goal was to assess the feasibility of converting post-industrial waste from Odlo’s production into virgin-quality recycled polyester yarns using DePoly’s patented chemical depolymerisation process.

The circular journey started in Romania, where Odlo’s Active Warm base layers are made. Offcuts from manufacturing were sent to Switzerland for depolymerisation by DePoly in Sion. The recycled polyester pellets were made into fibre in Italy, spun into yarn and knitted in Spain, before returning to Romania and beginning a new loop.

The success of this project is just the beginning said Odlo. The brand intends to continue defining design criteria and developing prototypes to support the establishment of a circular ecosystem for polyester in Switzerland and beyond.
