Partnership in closing the rPET loop
Swiss outdoor brand Odlo has announced it is working with DePoly, a chemical recycling start-up, also based in Switzerland, to investigate a possible closed loop recycling system for the brand’s base layers, which are made from 100% recycled polyester from PET bottles. The goal of the two partners is to demonstrate proof of concept.

The project, which runs from October to December, will start with 20 kg of fabric cuttings from Odlo’s Active Warm base layers. Using DePoly’s patented depolymerisation technique, these will be converted back into the building blocks for polyester and PET (MEG & PTA), which could then be reassembled into a new recycled PET yarn.

Swiss innovation institute Innosuisse pitched in CHF 24,000 to support the project. The partners hope that it will lead to the production of a knitted fabric that could form the start of a base layer capsule collection in 2026 or 2027.
