Six sign up to help drive Berghaus Adapts initiative

Outdoor brand Berghaus has shared details about the group of people that will help drive its new Berghaus Adapts initiative.

Its aim is to gather feedback directly from members of the public about changes it can make to garments and equipment to help make the outdoors more accessible to people who live with physical disabilities. The company launched the idea in February.

It has now selected a first group of people, the Adapts Collective, to work on this with its product team.
Berghaus said 16 million people in the UK live with a disability and that, for many, lack of access to suitable kit is a barrier to spending time in nature.

It has specific experience of adapting its products to the needs of people with disabilities through its work over the last five years with adventurer Ed Jackson, who is a recovering quadriplegic, and mountaineer Mick Fowler, who now climbs with a colostomy bag following treatment for cancer.

Now, after an open application process, six people of different ages and backgrounds, who between them face a wide range of kit-related challenges, have begun working with the company on Berghaus Adapts.

Design consultant Alice Sainsbury, who specialises in partnering with global brands on inclusive design, is also working with Berghaus on the Adapts programme.
