Australian cotton grower of the year, finalists announced

14/05/2025

Cotton Australia has announced the finalists for its 2025 cotton grower of the year award. This award is sponsored by crop science solutions provider Bayer.

The awards also include a high achiever award, sponsored by agribusiness insurance broker AgriRisk. The winners of both awards will be announced in August.

Five finalists have been nominated by fellow growers for excellence in farming practice and outstanding recent results in cotton production. These five farmers will be in contention for both awards.

Three of the finalists, Tyson Armitage, Thomas Popp and Matt Richards, grow cotton in Queensland. The other two, the Brownhill family and Tom and Julie Eather, farm in New South Wales.

Cotton Australia’s chief executive, Adam Kay, said: “The awards are the Australian cotton industry’s top grower honours for the year, and they recognise a range of attributes including innovation, sustainability, water efficiencies, nutrition and soil health, and commitment to communities.”

He explained that the group includes fifth-generation cotton farmers and one who is producing only his third cotton crop.
