Sport’s collective voice in Europe now stronger with Decathlon, FESI says

The Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) has signed up Decathlon as its newest member.

It said bringing Decathlon on board would reinforce the collective voice of the sporting goods industry in the European Union. It added that this was also a reflection of the growing engagement of the sector “in shaping a competitive and environmentally responsible future for sport in Europe”.

FESI paid tribute to Decathlon’s commitment to sustainability and innovation and to new business models like repair, maintenance, and product buy-back. It said the retail and manufacturing group’s expertise in these areas would help FESI inform regulatory programmes such as the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, the Green Claims Directive and broader efforts to ensure fair competition and harmonisation across the European Union.

Secretary general of FESI, Jérôme Pero, said Decathlon’s membership of the organisation formalised an existing relationship between them. Decathlon has contributed “meaningful insight” to earlier initiatives such as the Winter Sport Sustainability Network, he explained.

For his part, Decathlon’s director of public affairs for Europe, Koen Tengrootenhuysen, said joining FESI represented part of the company’s commitment to encouraging more and more people to take up sports and outdoor activities.
