Traceable wood-based viscose yarn from Grasim Industries

Yarn producer Grasim Industries has launched a new viscose filament yarn that it describes as fully traceable.

The yarn, Raysileco, derives from wood pulp that comes from sustainably managed forests, Grasim explained, adding that it had been able to embed “molecular-level and technology-enabled traceability” directly into the yarn.

The company, which is part of the Aditya Birla Group, said this would address growing demand for transparency in the apparel industry. It is using blockchain-based technology in partnership with supply chain traceability specialist Textile Genesis.

Chief executive of Grasim’s cellulosic fashion yarn business, Satyaki Ghosh, said Raysileco would enable supply chain partners “to verify and trust every filament they use”.
