Specialty materials company Eastman and Huafon Chemical, the Chinese group that acquired DuPont Biomaterials in 2022, have announced a formal strategic partnership.

They are to establish a joint facility in China to produce cellulose acetate yarn.

“China is the world’s largest textile supply chain hub and a frontier for product and technology innovation,” said the general manager of Eastman’s textiles business, Ruth Farrell. She added that the partnership will give Eastman greater capacity and further enhance the innovation capabilities of its Naia yarn.

Eastman also said this collaboration demonstrated its long-term commitment to the Chinese market and further deepens its presence in China. It said working with Huafon would enable it to set up “a more agile supply-chain response” to meet market demand for high-quality, innovative, and sustainable textile materials in the region.

Director of the Huafon-Eastman programme, Congdeng Yang, said the partnership would combine “local advantages with international resources” to achieve a localised chain, spanning innovation, product development, production and service.
