New Naia Lyte features enhanced tenacity
A new yarn has been introduced to Eastman’s acetate yarn portfolio with Naia Lyte, a filament yarn with enhanced tenacity. It was developed by Eastman with Huafon Chemical, its JV partner in China. The new yarn, which has been in development for several years, is now available on a commercial scale.

“Naia Lyte is 80% stronger than conventional Naia,” Ruth Farrell, head of Eastman’s textile business, told Sportstextiles. This property will allow mills to create very fine fabrics that will withstand rigorous use. “Strength is key in light weight fabrics,” she added. It also has the drape, lustre and aesthetics of acetate filament yarns.

Exhibiting at Première Vision Paris this week, the company also featured fabrics made from Naia staple fibres. Used in blends, these can help “fix” the drawbacks of natural fibres, such as making linen fabrics less prone to wrinkling and reducing fibre pilling in wool blends, Ms Farrell noted. The cool to touch and skin-friendly properties of the cellulosic fibre are driving its popularity in sports and athleisure. The fibre is part of the new NikeSkims collection, launching this week in Paris and London.
