Kodak site chosen for Reju chemical recycling hub

Textile-to-textile recycler Reju has chosen Rochester, New York, as the site for its first US-based facility. Located on the Eastman Business Park, Kodak’s headquarters, it is now a manufacturing and industrial complex. The facility is expected to be operational in 2029.

Reju’s facility will “regenerate” post-consumer waste, some 300 million articles annually, that it breaks down into rBHET, a building block of polyester. Its technology is derived from IBM Research (VolCat) and has been made possible by the engineering expertise of French group Technip Energies, Reju owner.

“Reju’s ambitious project, that will create approximately 70 new jobs at Eastman Business Park, shows how smart investments can turn waste into opportunity, further supporting our state’s overall green economy efforts and creating a brighter future for everyone,” declared New York State Governor Kathy Hochul, when she announced the plans for the $390 million textile regeneration hub yesterday.

Reju operates a demo plant, Regeneration Hub Zero, in Frankfurt and is building an industrial scale facility, Regeneration Hub One, at the Chemelot Industrial Park in Sittard, Netherlands.
