Patrik Frisk cannot wait for a world without waste
One of the companies behind the new European Circular Textile Coalition, Reju, has pointed out that Europe generates 12.6 million tonnes of textile waste annually.
The Paris-based start-up added that most of this waste is landfilled, incinerated or exported and that only 1% of it is recycled back into new garments. It said the new coalition had emerged because its members are convinced that this is no longer acceptable.
Commenting on this, Reju’s chief executive, Patrik Frisk, said: “We strongly believe that change happens with collaboration. That is why the emergence of the European Circular Textile Coalition is important. It will drive change collectively as an industry pulling together and we want more businesses to join us.”
He said the coalition would be embarking on “an advocacy tour” with the intention of explaining its mission to policymakers and other actors from across the textile value chain and urging them to put their weight behind it.
“Now is the time to act,” Mr Frisk said, “because when a world without waste is possible, we cannot afford to wait.”
