New Naia yarn on show at Intertextile Shanghai

Specialty materials company Eastman’s Naia brand presented a new cellulose acetate filament yarn at the autumn edition of Intertextile Shanghai in early September.

A result of its recently announced strategic partnership with Huafon Chemical, the new filament yarn offers higher tenacity than Naia Classic yarn, which will enable entry into lightweight fabric markets.

They announced the partnership in mid-August, saying they would establish a joint production facility. It is here that the new Naia cellulose acetate yarn will be manufactured.

The yarn will be made from 60% sustainably sourced wood pulp and 40% acetic acid, resulting in a diacetate fibre with bio-based content and biodegradability.

Eastman said this collaboration demonstrated its long-term commitment to the Chinese market and would enable “a more agile supply chain response” to meet demand for high-quality, sustainable textile materials in the region.

It said it had already begun collaborating with three mill customers in China to use the new yarn in fabric developments. The three mills are Colorful, GreenSilk and XinMin Textiles.

During the first half of 2026, it said the product will gradually roll out to additional customers.
