Sustainable design programme wins support from YKK

21/08/2025

Zip and fastenings technology developer YKK has announced a new partnership with the Fashion Frontier Program. The programme, which has the backing of Japan’s environment ministry, has the aim of discovering new talent in fashion and educating designers on sustainable design.

YKK argues that advances in zippers, snaps, and buttons are part of sustainable design.

A first incubation session for the Fashion Frontier Program cohort for 2025 will take place before the end of August. It will culminate in an awards ceremony for new-generation designers in mid-December.

At the first incubation session, YKK will deliver a lecture on the topic of circular fashion with the title ‘Little parts, big difference’. Its aim is to create greater understanding of fastening products and apply this knowledge to sustainable design practices in the fashion industry.
