France could come into play for RE&UP

The managing director of textiles recycling specialist RE&UP, Andreas Dorner, has repeated the company’s pledge to take the total volume of textiles it can recycle annually to 1 million tonnes by 2030.

In 2024, Mr Dorner said RE&UP had earmarked a site in Spain for scaling up its operations. But in comments to the Wall Street Journal in September 2025, he said France was also a possible location.

He confirmed that two factories that RE&UP runs in Turkey had been fully operational since last year, and that they are likely to recycle a combined total of 80,000 tonnes of textiles in the course of 2025. He said the output was 60% recycled cotton fibres and 40% polyester.

In the same article, the WSJ quoted Boston Consulting Group partner Catharina Martinez-Pardo as saying: “We have reached a tipping point. Technologies that we have seen growing over the last year are now industrialising. There is an entire industry coming up.”
