Fashion for Good releases blueprint for near-net-zero textile manufacturing

Fashion for Good’s Future Forward Factory project seeks to provide solutions to reduce the impact of the textile industry. Its latest report, “Breaking the Decarbonisation Deadlock”, seeks to offer Tier 2 manufacturers in India five practical, financially viable pathways to reduce carbon emissions by up to 93%. It focuses specifically on wet processes, such as dyeing and finishing, that require significant quantities of water, energy and chemicals.

“The Future Forward Factory blueprint removes the guesswork and delivers a pragmatic solution to a complex problem. By making this knowledge freely available, we are dismantling the biggest barrier to decarbonisation: the lack of a clear, implementable ‘how-to’. Every manufacturer now has access to concrete guidance and validated financial data,” commented Katrin Ley, Fashion for Good’s managing director.

As part of its practical approach to industry-wide issues, Fashion for Good will support a selected set of manufacturers in India to retrofit their facilities using this blueprint and with support from the Apparel Impact Institute (Aii). Selected facilities will have access to hands-on guidance, technical expertise, and financial clarity to implement the blueprint.

Arvind will be setting up the first Future Forward facility, based on the blueprint, and sharing its insights. The near-net-zero textile factory will then be used as a demonstrative, operational proof of concept. It will also contribute to other blueprints to come for companies in South Asia and Latin America, said Fashion for Good.
