Nike to shed 1,400 jobs
Sports group Nike has announced that it is cutting its workforce by 1,400. In a statement on April 23, chief operating officer, Venkatesh Alagirisamy, said the majority of the job-cuts would be in technology.
Mr Alagirisamy said that people affected by the cuts were being told by local managers, starting immediately.
He explained that Nike was reshaping its technology team. He said the company wanted to “sharpen alignment with the business, build leaner teams, and accelerate what matters most”.
He said it would concentrate most of its technology roles at two sites: corporate headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, and at its India Technology Center in Bangalore.
Other priorities that Mr Alagirisamy mentioned include changes at its Air Manufacturing Innovation facilities in Oregon and Vietnam. These are facilities that use techniques such as blow-molding, thermo-forming and radio-frequency welding to manufacture product. He said the company would be adjusting staffing at these sites “to match the needs of the business”.
Some Converse roles will move closer to factory partners in Asia, while materials teams will also work in closer proximity to footwear and apparel supply chain teams.
