Bestseller expands funds for regenerative sheep farming in South Africa
Danish apparel group Bestseller has announced that it is contributing $3 million to sheep farmers in South Africa. The funds are being directed to an ongoing project in the Eastern Cape to improve grasslands, animal welfare and soil resilience. The project is part of the Regenerative Fund for Nature launched by Bestseller with French luxury group Kering and international NGO Conservation International in 2021, with Inditex joining in 2023.
“Over the past five years, our work in the Eastern Cape has shown measurable benefits for the shepherds and their land,” commented Virginia Keesee, head of fashion and nature initiatives for Conservation International.
The mission of the Regenerative Fund for Nature is to address the impacts of high-volume fashion commodities on nature, specifically leather, cotton, wool and cashmere. It currently supports 13 projects across the globe, including several dedicated to cotton: the Organic Cotton Accelerator in Pakistan, the Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Network in India, and the African Wildlife Foundation in Uganda.
