Global tour for 3D-printed Air Max designs to start in Tokyo
Sports group Nike has announced a series of launch dates for limited-edition releases of a series of 3D-printed Air Max styles.
These new versions of the Air Max shoe are the result of a workshop in May that brought designers from eight cities around the world to Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.
They worked with Nike mentors and with Hamburg-based 3D printing technology company Zellerfeld to produce individualised versions of the Air Max shoe.
Nike will now release limited runs of each design, launching in each designers home city.
The launch series will begin in Tokyo in July this year with the presentation of the 3D-printed Air Max that designer Motoi Hatsuki developed, followed by the launch of designer Tasnim’s vesion in London in August.
In September, Marc Su will unveil his Air Max at an event in Beijing, with Masyn’s creation following in Los Angeles in October.
The series will then return to Asia to present Diya Joukani’s design in Mumbai in November, and Jose Wong’s in Shanghai in December.
Paris will be the next stop, in January, for the unveiling of the 3D-printed Air Max that Yams has created.
New York will host the final event of the tour, at which local designer Omi will show the eighth Air Max design to come out of the Beaverton workshop.
