The Sports Authority, Inc. has announced results for its second fiscal quarter ended July 30, 2005. Total sales for the second quarter were $617million compared with $605 million in the prior year's second quarter, an increase of $12 million, or 2.0%. Total sales for the 26 weeks ended July 30, 2005 were up 2.7% to $1.21 billion from $1.18 billion in the prior year's comparable period, an increase of $31.2 million.
Net income for the second quarter was $14.2 million compared with net income of $6.8 million. Net income for the 26 weeks ended July 30, 2005 was $22.2 million compared with net income of $10.9 million in the prior year's comparable period.
The company opened one store and closed two stores during the second quarter to arrive at a total number of stores in operation as of July 30, 2005 of 392 stores in 45 states.
