As a result of its expansion, Brazilian footwear manufacturer Alpargatas plans to recruit 1,600 new employees in the city of Campina Grande, Paraíba, Brazil. Construction work at the 12,500 m2 extension of the facility is already underway and production should begin in September 2006.

The new facility will further increase production at the plant which currently manufactures 130,000 pairs per month. The Campina Grande factory is the only facility that produces Havaianas, the famous Brazilian flip-flops which are currently sold in 140,000 shops in Brazil and abroad.
