Trade show to invest in bike advocacy body

The Interbike trade show has signed an agreement to provide funding for the next ten years to advocacy body Bikes Belong.

Formed in 1999 to encourage more US citizens to use bicylces, Bikes Belong will spend the money it receives from the event to increase its efforts to lobby government to fund more bicycles and more safe routes for cyclists across the country.

“Bikes Belong is doing a phenomenal job of getting more people on bikes, promoting bicycle safety and working with governments to develop bicycle friendly infrastructure,” said Joe Flynn, vice president and general manager of the sports group of Nielsen Business Media, the company that runs the Interbike event, as well as the Outdoor Retailer event. “Its efforts have significantly strengthened the bicycle industry.”
