Nike's lightest basketball shoe ever?
Nike has launched the Hyperdunk, its lightest and strongest basketball shoe ever, in collaboration with NBA player Kobe Bryant. The company has released the shoe to boost the performance of athletes at the Beijing Olympics this summer.
The shoe combines the company's Flywire technology – which makes the shoe lighter and adds strength – and Lunarlite foam, which features a unique cell structure making it lightweight and responsive. At only 13 ounces, it is 18% lighter than the average Nike basketball shoe.
Nike president and CEO, Mark Parker, says: "Every gram counts in competition. Athletes need superior lightweight footwear and apparel that they can compete in with confidence and that's exactly what we've created for them."
Mr Parker and Mr Kobe introduced the shoe to media representatives at the company's global headquarters, alongside other Beijing-related performance products including Nike Swift performance apparel using recycled polyester.
China is Nike's largest sourcing country and its largest business outside the US, with revenues of just over $1 billion for the trailing 12 months.
