Nike continues Kobe Bryant’s legacy with fresh partnership

Sportswear group Nike is continuing its partnership with the Bryant family, working together to establish a youth basketball centre in Southern California and creating footwear to raise money for the family’s foundation.
Basketball star and Nike athlete Kobe Bryant was killed alongside his daughter, promising basketballer Gigi, and seven others in a helicopter crash in 2020.
For many years, Nike and Kobe Bryant worked together on lineage of basketball shoes.
Nike CEO John Donahoe said: “Kobe Bryant means so much to so many of us, not just NBA fans but globally beyond the game.
“His impact in growing the sport, particularly encouraging women and young people to pick it up, endures as one of his deepest, lasting legacies. Together with his wife Vanessa, we hope to honour Kobe and Gigi by championing a new generation for many years to come.”
The first new Kobe release, the Kobe 6 Protro “Mambacita Sweet 16” will honor Gigi Bryant. All proceeds from the shoe will benefit the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation.
