WFSGI supports ambitious Doha outcome

On one side, the Olympic Games provide a fair competition for athletes coming from all over the world. On the other side, the WTO (World Trade Organization) is working to create a fair trade environment.

In relation to this, the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) has gathered in Beijing for its annual meeting in order to discuss both issues and to express its support for the DDA (Doha Development Agenda) negotiations for a free and fair global market.

The WFSGI's position is to support further tariffs reduction or elimination for sporting goods, and even reach the so-called 'zero to zero position' (tariff elimination both on imports and exports) through the Swiss Formula and voluntary agreements.

It believes that problems associated with rising prices can only be levelled with the help of their respective governments, which have the power to lower or remove tariff barriers. It claims tariff elimination in the sports equipment sector would create greater economic value, lower production costs and supply consumers with wider and affordable choice of products.

Founded in 1978, the WFSGI is a representative body for the sports industry and is located in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is a non-profit and non-governmental association that promotes free and fair trade as well as increased sport participation around the world.
