Kemira increases formic acid capacity in Oulu
Producer of formic and organic acid Kemira has expanded its plant in Oulu, Finland. Its total production capacity will be increased by up to 30%, to more than 100,000 t/a.
The expansion took place at existing formic acid units and involved improvements to technology and introduced energy saving methods. Greater tank capacity was also built at Oulu harbour.
Formic acid is biodegradable and can be used for many applications in place of more hazardous chemicals. The main markets of formic acid are textiles, leather, pharmaceuticals and chemicals industries as well as agriculture.
Kemira produces formic acid and its derivatives in Oulu, Finland, and organic acid derivatives in Tiel, the Netherlands.
