More closures for Nigerian textile firms
Three more Nigerian textile companies have closed down, bringing the total to 38, according to general secretary of the National Union of Textile Garments and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, Issa Aremu. The latest closures are at International Textile Industry (Isolo) and its processing house in Ikorodu, First Spinners Limited and Reliance Textile Industry.
According to Mr Aremu, approximately 2,500 workers in the sector were laid off in 2008. He has declared a state of national emergency and is urging the government to take action.
