Manufacturing body wants assistance for textile sector

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has asked the government to put policies in place to revive the textile industry following widespread closures of cotton, textile and garment mills, local media reports.

“No fewer than 145 cotton, textile and garment (CTG) mills across the country have collapsed and as such the government will have to put (in place) effective measures to restore the sector which President Buhari has resolved to make a fulcrum of his job creation drive,” the MAN said.

It said the government’s plan to create three million new jobs in the textile industry was “ambitious” but could be achieved if politicians commit to the target. The MAN said that very little has been done so far to address the problems that are causing the “collapse” of the sector.
