India has set up an apparel training centre in the Nigerian city of Kaduna in an effort to support the African country’s textile industry. It forms part of the Cotton Technical Assistance Programme for Africa, which is being led by India’s department of commerce.

“The centre is aimed to support and catalyse the initiative of Nigeria in realising the objectives to rebuild the cotton and textile value chain and address the need for skilled workforce for domestic as well export-oriented apparel industry in the West African region,” said M K Dwivedi, joint secretary of the department of commerce.

It is the first such centre to be set up in Nigeria and the initiative counts on the support of the country’s government.
