Indian government seeks to boost textile exports

The Indian government plans to carry out roadshows to non-traditional markets in order to boost the country’s textile exports, according to local media reports.

In the 2015/16 financial year, India’s textile exports fell to $40 billion, down from $41.4 billion the previous year. This was primarily due to competition from other Asian nations, including Vietnam and Bangladesh.

The government will showcase Indian textiles and related products in Russia, as well as in countries in West Asia and South America. It hopes to attract direct foreign investment and create jobs in the country.
