Pakistan to train youth in garment making

The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), based in the Pakistani province of Punjab, and garment manufacturer and exporter Ali Murtaza Associates (AMA) are teaming up to offer vocational courses in garment making to young people. 

Theory sessions will be organised by TEVTA at its sites in the region and AMA will offer practical training. The two organisations will work together to design the curriculum of the courses, which will last three months and be offered to more than 500 young people. The courses will include textile dyeing and finishing, pattern making and cutting and engineering.

AMA will provide Rs 7,000 ($67) per month to them during their practical training and there will be paid job opportunities for those that excel, according to AMA chief operating officer, Ali Shahid Khan.
