Pakistan textile exports fall 7.7%

Textile exports from Pakistan dropped 7.7% during the period between July 2015 and April 2016 when compared to the same period last year.

According to figures from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), textile exports were valued at $10.395 billion in the period to April 2016, compared to the $11.625 billion recorded between July 2014 and April 2015.

Exports of cotton yarn dipped 32% from $1.59 billion to $1.08 billion and cotton cloth exports also suffered a drop, falling 9.89% from $2.086 billion to $1.879 billion. Similarly, raw cotton exports decreased 47.7% from $144.693 million to $75.672 million. Non-cotton yarn exports were down 23.17%.

On a year-on-year basis, textile exports in April 2016 were down 3.48% to $1.033 billion. This figure was a 3.07% increase on the $1.002 billion recorded in March 2016, according to the data from the PBS.
