Sports brand adidas has celebrated its seventieth birthday; Adi Dassler started the company with 47 employees in the town of Herzogenaurach on August 18, 1949.
Seventy years on, the company now has 57,000 employees around the world and annual sales of more than €20 billion.
Famously, Adi Dassler started working with his younger brother of Rudolf to develop sports footwear in the 1920s. He studied the technical aspects of shoemaking at Germany’s main footwear technology college in Pirmasens.
When the brothers went their separate ways, Rudi founded Puma in 1948 and Adi set up adidas one year later.
