Higher German textile machinery exports
German textile machinery association VDMA claims orders for the first quarter of 2010 were 130% higher than during the first quarter of last year. It predicts that sales will rise between 30% and 35% in volume this year compared with 2009 figures.
Fritz Mayer, chairman of the association and managing partner of textile machinery company Karl Mayer, said: “After two extremely difficult years, the German textile machinery manufacturers are guardedly optimistic for the future.”
During the last quarter of 2009, the country’s textile machinery exports totalled €555 million, while in January and February 2010 alone, textile machinery exports totalled €533 million. In 2009, 55% of all German textile machinery exports were shipped to Asia, with a value of €1.8 billion. China and India imported the most at €628 million and €161 million, respectively.
During the first two months of 2010, exports to China rose 37% to €83 million compared with the same period last year. Exports to other Asian countries also increased including Iran €6.8 million (+50%), Thailand €4.1 million (+42%), Vietnam €1.7 million (+35%) and Bangladesh €2.7 million (+8%).
