London date for smart clothes conference

06/03/2012
A one-day conference will take place in London at the end of March on the subject of smart clothes and wearable technology.

The organisers, the Smart Clothes and Wearable Technology Research Centre at the University of Wales Newport, have said a particular aim of the event will be to promote a design-led approach to addressing “a significant gap in the design of clothing and textiles to enhance the autonomy, independence and sense of enjoyment and wellbeing of the active ageing”, which they describe as a rapidly growing market.

Findings from current research into designing clothes and wearable technology that will help people “age well” will provide a basis for discussion at the event, with end-users always at the centre of the debate.

The conference will take place at the Wellcome Trust building near Euston Station on Tuesday, March 27, with a reception taking place the evening before.
