SGS offers sustainability service to Indian textiles industry
08/05/2012
SGS measures sustainability in business through what it calls a “three core-area classification assessment” covering design, packaging and carbon footprint. It has developed its own carbon footprint mark and offers a consulting service to help textile companies calculate their impact on the environment and develop “a greener profile”.
In recent remarks SGS’s global sustainability services vice-president, Charles Ly Wa Hoi, said carbon footprint counting should be the first step for measuring a business’s sustainability credentials and Dr G Sudesh Kumar, director of consumer testing services for SGS in India, said that the sustainability initiatives his organisation now wants to the Indian marketplace are already successfully established in both Europe and China.
