Advansa has said this eco2 polyester shows a reduced global warming potential of approximately 80%, based on the assessment of various fibres used in apparel carried out by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The 80% figure comes from a comparison between the carbon emissions per tonne of the polyester sourced from recycled bottles with those of virgin polyester.
In a similar way, Advansa has calculated that eco2 polyester shows
a reduced use of non-renewable energy of approximately 77%, and a water use value (cubic-metres per tonne) about 10 times lower than that of bio-based fibres such as viscose and about 100 times lower than that of cotton.
DeFeet launched the Cyclismo sock at the Interbike North America event in Las Vegas at the end of September, emphasising the product’s ability to all cyclists to feel comfortable during all phases of a ride, no matter how hot or cold the weather. The sock also has a new mesh pattern to add to comfort and breathability.
Advansa is supplying the ThermoCool Eco2 yarn to DeFeet through a partnership with licensed Canadian spinner FilSpec.
