Dow launches Silvadur microbial technology

Silvadur combines silver, an antimicrobial agent, with a polymeric delivery system that delivers silver ions on to fabric surfaces in a controlled manner when undesirable bacteria is present.
Dow says the technology’s delivery system is a reliable alternative to the traditional, often costly and problematic use of silver particle-based technologies. Its polymeric nature, low dosage profile and formulation composition make it an option for retailers and brand owners selecting antimicrobial finishing treatments or treated articles.
Karel Williams, global strategic marketing manager for Dow Microbial Control, said: "Research demonstrates that consumers are willing to pay more for textile products offering improved freshness, and Silvadur’s numerous benefits help increase the value of textiles, apparel and garments treated with the product."
The product is compatible with natural and synthetic fibres, and a range of common textile chemical additives, detergents and other finishing treatments.
Silvadur-treated articles are non-sensitising and non-irritating to humans and it does not release silver particulates into the environment. It is also recyclable and reusable during processing applications due to its stability to light and water solubility.
