The competition is open to 11 to 18 year olds and the prize will be awarded to the most innovative project on topics such as hydrophilic properties and wicking fabrics.
Out of thousands of entrants, 228 finalists have been selected and will exhibit their projects in London in March.
The winner visit a cutting-edge textile facility and will receive tickets to a fashion event held at the House of Commons, the UK's parliament.
Competition manager Jon Fitzmaurice commented: "It is fantastic to be able to work with UKFT to encourage more young people to understand the hugely important influence of science and technology on fashion and textiles. We hope the competition will help to inspire the next generation of professionals working in the industry.”
