Cautious welcome for trade deal from UKFT

The UK Fashion and Textiles Association (UKFT) has welcomed the UK’s trade deal with the EU (Brexit) but has cautioned that there is still much for companies to do “as the trading environment will be very different”.

The EU is the UK fashion and textiles industry’s biggest market and the deal should help secure the £7.4 billion of fashion and textiles that the UK sells to the EU every year, it said.

UKFT chairman Nigel Lugg said: “I am delighted that a deal has been agreed. While we need to see the detail of the deal to fully understand the implications, UKFT will be working with its members to help the industry maintain and grow its exports to the EU and the rest of the world.”

He urged the UK government to help the sector meet challenges and to invest in its long-term future.
