Innovative surfboard takes a new twist on flax

A surfboard that uses the vibration-dampening properties of flax will be among the developments presented by the international flax association, CELC, at the JEC Europe composites show in Paris in March.

French company Notox has developed a technology based on the use of high-performance materials that are also environment friendly. Its greenOne technology combines technical flax reinforcements (twillweave, UD and bi-axial) and recycled EPS foam cores for vacuum impregnation with 56% biosourced epoxy resin.

From a performance point of view, these ultra-light boards have improved vibration damping properties (compared with standard polyurethane/polyester and EPS/epoxy technologies) and optimised floatability, speed and thrust, according to the company.

Notox is now working on a kiteboard (currently at the pre-production stage) that also uses flax composite performance characteristics.
