Speedo, Berghaus and Lacoste deliver strong performances

The owner of a number of sports and outdoor brands, UK-based Pentland Group, has announced revenues up 14.2% to £1.74 billion for 2012, which it says reflects the strength and quality of its portfolio.

It said Speedo, Berghaus and Lacoste footwear delivered particularly strong performances, and pushed its revenues from brands up 6.8% to £531m.

Excluding revenue from the Blacks and Millets businesses acquired during the year, its retail division, JD Sports Fashion, reported revenues up 7.4% to £1.11bn.

Swimwear brand Speedo dominated in the pool at the London 2012 Olympics as the chosen brand of many elite swimmers, including Michael Phelps, who secured his 22nd Olympic medal, and Rebecca Adlington, Britain’s most successful female Olympic swimmer.

Berghaus developed its presence in various central European and Asian markets.

Lacoste achieved another record year with strong growth in Latin America, Asia, the US, Germany and France.

Footwear brands Boxfresh and Kickers achieved good levels of growth in a challenging European market, said Pentland.

However, group operating profit fell 11.7% to £89m, reflecting the impact of the Blacks/Millets acquisition plus continued investment in international development and infrastructure.
