OIA claims victory in import tariff debate

The association estimates MTBs have saved outdoor industry companies more than $30 million since 2006, allowing investments in US jobs and innovation as well as resulting in lower retail prices for consumers.
Kirk Bailey, vice-president of government affairs for OIA, said: “Without the MTB, outdoor manufacturers could be penalised with as much as a 38% cost increase, despite the fact that there is no viable domestic manufacturing. Worse, such cost hikes would have a detrimental impact on retail sales.
“OIA worked closely with its members to ensure the MTB would not harm US manufacturing while achieving maximum economic benefits for those outdoor companies that make products that are eligible for tariff suspensions under the legislation.”
