Swimwear goes green with XLAnce’s recycled fabric

Fabric manufacturer Carvico and yarn producer Aquafil have developed a “green” version of their XLAnce fabric using XLA elastomeric fibre and a 100% polyamide made from post-consumer materials.

The companies have been working together since forming a joint venture, XLAnce Fibre Italia, in 2011.

The eco stretch fibre is chlorine-proof and offers “extreme recovery”, and blends with fibres including polypropylene, making it suitable for beachwear. It maintains its stretch after 240 hours in pool water, and is resistant to sun creams and UV rays, say the companies.

XLAnce Eco is made from post-consumer materials and products including discarded fishing nets, tulle and carpet, which are saved from landfill, recycled, reprocessed and turned into a new polymer and then a new yarn.

Additionally, XLAnce Eco is fast-drying and breathable.
